Corvids know comparing volumes of water
Corina Logan and the team at the University of Auckland wanted to go deeper into the experience of the pitcher Aesop and present its findings in a paper in the journal Plos One . A series of exercises have been proposed to specimens of three crows, ravens of New Caledonia (which owns the famous 007), Rooks ( Corvus frugilegus ) and jays ( Garrulus glandarius ). These tests have been carried out with young mammals ... of the species Homo sapiens , which allowed comparison.
The experiments were all focused on the recovery of a tasty worm (replaced by a badge for little humans) at the bottom of a container transparent (Plexiglas) with, however, variants more or less subtle. In one test, the sand replaced water in one of two containers. The birds were they throwing stones preferentially to them where there was cash? Many have failed or given up but overall corvids will have done well: the five birds that went to the end of the year, three quarters of stones were thrown into the container of water.
Other exercises gave to choose, as a stone, between objects sinking and floating objects, or even between solid or hollow objects. http://enjoycoloring.com/ The birds have hardly deceived and have been able to choose the most effective items.
